Preparing the Youth for the Future

As a college student, an important part of your journey through the time you spend at your university is community service. Yes, community service.

College is the place where students begin to develop their leadership skills. And the first step in being a leader is to serve.

Community service is important because you begin to develop a richer perspective of the world that we live in. You're able to see the world from the eyes of the people you serve.

No matter what you do, you make a difference. Every person counts!

The ultimate purpose of the University is to contribute to the promotion of a more just and humane society by preparing its students to assume roles of leadership and service in a global society. This preparation takes place in a diverse learning and teaching environment that incorporates all relevant educational means, including research and community service.

This semester, I had the opportunity to give back. Every Wednesday at 1 P.M., I went to St. Peter Claver Elementary school and I mentored a group of young men. This experience was very enlightening.

When I was their age, I never had any college students come back to the classroom to help me with my classwork or to just chill with me and have fun.
